A male lion appears from his lair and leisurely walks in the open where a lioness stands and stretches. She saunters upwind, then glides past him, leading him to within a few feet of our vehicle.
A lion can tell when a female is ready to mate by wrinkling his nose, opening his mouth, then smelling through a special organ, called the Jacobson's organ, in the roof of his mouth.
